Online search not required for "secret" clearance given to alleged NATO spy

Federal officials told the House public safety committee internet and social media searches were not required for the "secret" clearance granted to Biwei Zhang before her NATO internship. The check applies only to "top secret" clearance. Zhang, 33, was arrested in Mons, Belgium, in July on espionage allegations after CSIS and RCMP vetting.
