Geoscience Australia's early reading put Saturday's 2:01am earthquake near Leongatha at 4.8, about 130km south-east of Melbourne. Shaking from about 10km below ground reached Melbourne's eastern suburbs, with thousands telling Geoscience Australia they felt it. No tsunami danger. A smaller 3.1 follow-up shake came 55 minutes later. South Gippsland is one of Australia's most quake-prone areas.
