Government to spend $6.8b more than it earns, Treasury says

Treasury says the Government will spend $6.8 billion more than it earns in 2026/27, down from $11.4 billion in the May Budget, in its 29 September 2026 pre-election books. It expects the shortfall to shrink to $0.8 billion the year after, then to take in $4 billion more than it spends. Parties will use them to price election promises.
