Serbia's Leader Steps Down to Run for Another Top Job

Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vucic, quit on Sept. 27, 2026, after nine years, seven months before his term ended. The country's rules block a third term, so he will lead his Progressive Party in the Oct. 25 election for parliament, running to become prime minister, the day-to-day leader. Speaker Ana Brnabic fills in as president until a vote within three months.
