Serbia's Vucic Resigns Early to Run for Prime Minister

Aleksandar Vucic resigned as Serbia's president on Sept. 27, 2026, ending nine years in office seven months early. Barred by term limits from a third run, he will lead the Progressive Party into the Oct. 25 parliamentary election as its prime minister candidate — head of government. Speaker Ana Brnabic serves as interim president until a vote within three months.
