Akamai Spends Billions Setting Up AI Computers Before Payday

Akamai will spend about $5.5 billion setting up computers for its $11.6 billion, seven-year agreement to run Anthropic's AI work. That includes $1.7 billion extra in 2026 to buy parts like memory chips early. It expects no income in 2026, then $150-$300 million from second half of 2027, growing to $1.7 billion a year by end of 2028.
