DJI Makes a Delivery Drone for Businesses (Not Amazon)
DJI, a major drone company, just released a new delivery drone called the FlyCart 30 on January 10. Unlike drones that bring packages to your home, this one is built for businesses that need to move heavy items across medium distances. It can carry 30 to 40 kilograms (about 65 to 90 pounds—roughly the weight of a large dog) and can fly up to 28 kilometers (about 17 miles) before needing to return. The drone has two special features: it can either drop cargo directly to the ground, or it can lower items slowly using a winch—like a construction crane. To make it reliable for serious work, DJI added safety backups (so if one system fails, another takes over), precise GPS positioning, and the ability for two people to control it at once. Companies in mining, construction, and emergency rescue are the main customers. Right now, other specialized companies like Wingcopter and Zipline lead this market, so DJI is a new competitor in the space.
