A Private European Rocket Reaches Space for the First Time

A German company called Isar Aerospace sent its Spectrum rocket into orbit on September 5, 2026, from a launch site in Arctic Norway, carrying five small satellites. Its first test flight, in March 2025, crashed after about 30 seconds. Chancellor Friedrich Merz called it "the beginning of a new era" for European space access.
