National promises to cut how much graduates pay back on student loans

National wants to lower the share of income graduates must pay back on student loans, from 12 to 10 cents per dollar earned above $24,128, from April 2027, if re-elected. Finance spokesperson Nicola Willis said a graduate earning $75,000 would keep about $1,000 a year. The change would not start until well into the next parliamentary term.
