One Nation picks banker Mike Newman to lead its push in NSW

One Nation has named investment banker Mike Newman — son of former ABC chair Maurice Newman — as NSW leader and first lower house candidate for the March 2027 state election. He will run in Cessnock, held by Labor for 38 years. In 2023, One Nation lost there by 23.4% in the final head-to-head vote count. A July Resolve poll put the party at 25% statewide.
