One Nation names investment banker Mike Newman as NSW leader, first lower house candidate for 2027 election

One Nation has named investment banker and former Tokyo trade commissioner Mike Newman — son of former ABC chair Maurice Newman — as NSW leader and first lower house candidate for the March 2027 state election. He will contest Cessnock, held by Labor for 38 years. In 2023, One Nation lost the seat's two-party preferred vote by 23.4%. A July Resolve poll placed the party at 25% statewide.
