Melting glacier collapse kills over 270, cuts trade route and power supply between Nepal and China

On 26 August 2026, a massive wall of ice and rock collapsed on the Nepal-Tibet border, killing over 270 people. It wiped out 19 bridges and about 40 km of road along a major Nepal-China trade path. Power plants that supply electricity to Nepal and India were destroyed. With 1,300 missing, police expect the death toll to climb.
