Glacier collapse severs Nepal-China trade route and hydropower supply, killing over 270

A 26 August 2026 glacier collapse on the Nepal-Tibet border killed over 270 people and destroyed 19 bridges and roughly 40 km of road along the Rasuwagadhi corridor, a key Nepal-China trade route. Hydropower plants supplying Nepal and India were also destroyed. With 1,300 missing, Nepal Police say the death toll will rise.
