Labor to cut refugee intake six weeks after promising more

Six weeks after Labor promised to take at least 20,000 refugees a year, it confirms the number will fall to 13,750 by 2027-28 — the same level the previous Coalition government left it at. Labor says this was forecast back in 2023 and confirmed in the May budget. The timing is harder to explain.
