Six weeks after Labor's national conference in Adelaide reaffirmed 20,000 refugee places as a minimum and 27,000 as an aspiration, the Albanese government has confirmed the humanitarian intake will fall to 13,750 by 2027-28 — exactly where the Coalition left it. Labor says the figure was forecast in 2023 and confirmed in the May budget. The timing is harder to explain.
