Police explore possible links between a deadly house fire, a road crash, and local crime groups

Two people died and a woman was critically hurt in a Grangetown, Middlesbrough house fire on 26 August 2026. Police have not ruled out a connection to Saturday's A66 wrong-way crash, which killed seven — two officers and five civilians — or to local crime groups. A separate police operation led to 17 arrests. The fire scene has not yet been fully checked.
