On 26 August 2026, the UN called "outrageous" Israel's threat to force Gaza residents from their homes over children flying kites. Leaders Netanyahu and Katz called the kites "an act of war" and warned of more military action. A ceasefire (a deal to stop fighting) began in October 2025; over 1,280 Palestinians have died since.
