Guinea trash pile collapse kills at least 30 — same site that failed in 2017

At least 30 people died when a giant pile of garbage collapsed onto homes in Guinea's capital, Conakry, around 2 a.m. on August 23, 2026, after heavy rain. The same dump collapsed similarly in 2017, killing at least eight. The prime minister visited the scene as soldiers led recovery efforts. Officials said the toll would rise.
