Guinea landfill collapse kills at least 30 — same site, same failure as 2017

At least 30 people died when a rubbish mound collapsed onto homes in Conakry, Guinea, at roughly 02:00 on August 23, 2026, after heavy overnight rain. The same landfill collapsed under near-identical conditions in 2017, killing at least eight. Prime Minister Mamadou Oury Bah visited the scene as military-led recovery continued, with officials warning the toll would rise.
