TikTok to Pay $400 Million Over Children's Privacy Violations

TikTok and its parent company ByteDance will pay $400 million to settle a government lawsuit. The Justice Department accused them of collecting children's personal data without parental permission and not deleting accounts when asked. A similar 2019 case cost TikTok's predecessor just $5.7 million — about one-seventieth of this penalty.
