First Afghan American Elected to Congress After Costly California Race

California lawmaker Aisha Wahab won a special election for Congress on August 18, becoming the first Afghan American to serve in the U.S. House. Outside groups spent $6.4 million against her, cutting her lead from 20 points to six. She won with help from the Democratic Party, unions, and Attorney General Rob Bonta.
