Most Students Retaking Maths and English Exams Still Fail

Students in England who fail maths or English exams at 16 must retake them. But only one in seven passed maths retakes this summer, and one in six passed English. By contrast, seven in ten 16-year-olds pass on their first try. About 620,000 students face retakes next year. Education Secretary Lucy Powell called the system "a hamster wheel."
