Over 1,000 Birds Found Dead on South Australian Islands in Worst Bird Flu Outbreak Since Virus Reached Mainland

A highly dangerous bird flu virus called H5 has killed more than 1,000 seabirds called terns on two South Australian island groups. The state's leader, Premier Malinauskas, called it a "significant escalation." It is the deadliest outbreak since the virus reached Australia's mainland in June. Endangered sea lions live on the same islands, but no sea lion deaths have been found.
