Liberia's government charged former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor on August 19, 2026, with drug trafficking and money laundering — hiding money gained illegally. Police caught her at the airport before she could leave the country. She was vice president from 2018 to 2024 under President George Weah. Three people from other countries were also charged but are not in custody.
