Liberia Indicts Former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor on Drug Trafficking Charges

Liberia's Justice Ministry on August 19, 2026 indicted former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor on drug trafficking, money laundering, and other offenses. Police detained her at Roberts International Airport in Monrovia before she could board a flight out of the country. She served as vice president from 2018 to 2024 under President George Weah. Three foreign nationals were charged in absentia in the same case.
