Two top officials quit over Northern Territory child protection laws

Independent First Nations lawmaker Yiŋiya Guyula left the Northern Territory parliament on 19 August 2026, calling new child protection laws passed without community input a "slow genocide." Children's commissioner Shahleena Musk resigned over the same laws in July. Voters will now choose a replacement for Guyula's seat of Mulka.
