Independent First Nations MP Yiŋiya Guyula resigned from the Northern Territory parliament on 19 August 2026, calling CLP child protection laws passed "with no consultation with our communities" a "slow genocide." NT children's commissioner Shahleena Musk resigned over the same legislation in July 2026. A by-election for Guyula's seat of Mulka now looms.
