NSW to buy back guns from owners in Australia's biggest scheme in 30 years

NSW will pay gun owners to hand in their weapons from 2 November 2026 — Australia's biggest such effort in 30 years, and the first by any state. The state and federal governments share the cost equally. NSW Police runs it, after the December 2025 Bondi beach terror attack killed 15 people.
