NSW to launch Australia's biggest gun buyback in 30 years from November

NSW will become the first state to launch Australia's biggest gun buyback in 30 years, starting 2 November 2026. The state and federal governments will split compensation costs 50-50, with Canberra also fully funding firearm destruction. NSW Police will administer the scheme, triggered by the December 2025 Bondi beach terror attack that killed 15 people.
