Luxon survives vote on his leadership, won't say how many MPs backed him
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon survived a vote on his leadership by his own MPs on 13 August 2026 — his second such vote in four months. He would not say how many voted against him, telling media he had "the full support of our caucus." Commentators called it a "botched coup." Luxon also sacked Chris Penk from cabinet.
