Luxon survives second confidence vote in four months, won't release count

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon survived his second leadership confidence vote in four months on 13 August 2026 but has declined to release the tally. He told media he had "the full support of our caucus." Commentators called the challenge a "botched coup." Luxon also sacked Chris Penk from cabinet. The size of internal opposition remains unknown.
