Government partners clash over charging tourists for stays

National's Christopher Luxon told RNZ his party may charge visitors a tax on overnight stays if re-elected. ACT's David Seymour disagreed, wanting $1 per night redirected from taxes tourists already pay. The two government partners are now openly split on how to fund tourism ahead of the 2026 election.
