Lebanon Bans the Death Penalty While Three U.S. States Plan Executions Same Day

On August 11, 2026, Lebanon's parliament voted to ban the death penalty, changing all existing death sentences to life in prison. It is the first country in its region to do so. Two days later, three U.S. states — Tennessee, Alabama, and Oklahoma — plan to execute prisoners by lethal injection on the same day, the first such event since 2010.
