Elderly Britons in Sweden told to leave over Brexit paperwork
After Brexit, Britons living in Sweden must apply for residence permits. At least three elderly or incapacitated long-term residents now face deportation for missing that paperwork — including Horace Mason, 74, ordered out by 20 August, and Joyce Thomas, 78. Kathleen Poole, who had Alzheimer's, died in care after a 2023 removal threat. Courts say even dementia and decades of residence are not enough to stay.
