Google Consolidates Wearable Payments Under Single Wallet Platform

Google is discontinuing Fitbit Pay on July 29, 2024, migrating all wearable contactless payments to Google Wallet. The move consolidates fragmented payment infrastructure across Fitbit and Wear OS devices, aligning Google's strategy with Apple and Samsung's unified wearable payment ecosystems. Developers currently supporting both systems will simplify to a single integration path. Some older Fitbit hardware lacks the secure elements necessary for Google Wallet support and will lose contactless payment capability entirely.
