Meta Provided Evidence in Fewer Than 2% of EU Account Ban Appeals
Appeals Centre Europe, an independent EU dispute settlement body, reviewed 4,600 account ban cases for Facebook, Instagram, and Threads users claiming wrongful suspension. Meta provided evidence in fewer than 100 cases—a 2% response rate. Account bans were the largest category of disputes filed during the year ending March 2026. Under EU law, platforms must engage in good faith with dispute bodies, though their decisions lack legal binding force. The European Commission has preliminarily found Meta in breach of its regulatory obligations.
