
Former Met Police commissioner apologizes for undercover unit abuses he says he never knew about
Former Met commissioner Paul Condon told the Undercover Policing Inquiry on 21 July 2026 that he personally apologized to everyone harmed by the Special Demonstration Squad, a covert unit that infiltrated leftwing groups from 1968 to 2008. He is the highest-ranking officer to testify — yet said he knew nothing of the unit's abuses during his 1993–2000 tenure.
