Trump orders 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods within 30 days, citing provincial liquor bans and dairy system

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order July 20 directing 50-per-cent tariffs on certain Canadian products within 30 days. Senior White House officials cited provincial bans on U.S. liquor, Canada's supply-managed dairy system, and vehicle quotas as triggers. Energy, potash and fish are exempt. Canada's 13 premiers, meeting in Charlottetown, had internal trade and major projects already on their agenda.
