Ruapehu mayor calls for commitment to restore Chateau Tongariro, not demolish it

Ruapehu Mayor Weston Kirton has called for political commitment to restore the closed Chateau Tongariro Hotel, saying demolition should be off the table. Kirton said reports demolition remains an option would upset thousands who backed saving the Category 1 heritage-listed landmark, RNZ reported on 3 October.
