Ruapehu mayor says save old Chateau hotel, don't knock it down

Ruapehu Mayor Weston Kirton wants politicians to promise to fix up the closed Chateau Tongariro Hotel. He said knocking it down should not happen. Reports that demolition, or knocking it down, is still possible would upset thousands who want to save the old hotel, which has Category 1 heritage protection for its special history, RNZ reported on 3 October.
