Smell is still used to discriminate, historian warns

University of York historian Dr Will Tullett says smells remain a tool of discrimination, citing landlords refusing to rent to people of particular ethnicities over beliefs about food aromas and a proposed Commons bill that could have criminalised rough sleepers for excessive smells. Tullett urged greater self-awareness of odour-based prejudice. His book 'Sniff' is due 8 September.
