Federal Court immigration caseload up 600% since 2020 with no new judges, chief justice says

Federal Court Chief Justice Alan Diner says immigration filings are on track to exceed 33,000 this year — up roughly 600 per cent since 2020 — while the bench remains at 44 judges. Immigration now accounts for 86 per cent of all files, with 28,000 cases pending. Staff are working weekends and through vacations. Delays have stretched to eight weeks.
