Fatal Festival Sign Collapse Prompts Health and Safety Investigation

A 41-year-old man died and at least six were hospitalised after a large sign fell at the Big Church Festival, Wiston Park, West Sussex, on 28 August 2026. Sussex Police referred the incident to the Health and Safety Executive and local authority, initiating a formal investigation into temporary structure safety. Detective Chief Superintendent Richard McDonagh appealed for witnesses and video footage. Festival organisers cancelled the remainder of the event.
