Festival Sign Collapse Triggers Safety Investigation

A 41-year-old man died and six were hospitalised after a large sign collapsed at the Big Church Festival in West Sussex on 28 August 2026. Police referred the incident to the Health and Safety Executive — the UK regulator for workplace and public event safety — and local authorities, launching a formal probe. Detective Chief Superintendent Richard McDonagh sought witnesses and footage. Organisers cancelled the rest of the festival.
