Ottawa pulls U.S. seafood from retaliatory tariff list after Atlantic Canada concerns

Canada removed U.S. fish and seafood from retaliatory tariffs set for Sept. 8, one day after announcing them. Two federal sources said the reversal followed warnings the duties would harm Atlantic Canada's processing sector. In fall, almost half of Maine's lobster catch crosses to New Brunswick plants for processing. Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson said the adjustment protects Canada's coastal economy.
