Meta Settlement's Legal Release Bars States From Future COPPA Suits Over Children's Data

Meta's multi-state settlement includes a release in which 47 states, DC, and territories agreed "fully, finally, and forever" not to bring past, present, or future COPPA or similar state-law claims over Meta's use of children's data. The FTC, COPPA's primary enforcer, is not a party and retains full enforcement authority. The settlement totals up to $18 billion and is subject to court approval.
