Family violence centre cuts a third of staff; union and board chair split on whether it helps or hurts

The Centre for Family Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention will cut 22 jobs from 28 September, reducing staff from 78 to 52. Board chair Andrew Kibblewhite said the restructure would "sharpen" focus and advance Te Aorerekura, the national strategy to eliminate family and sexual violence. The Public Service Association says cutting a third of the workforce contradicts the centre's own mission.
