Claude's unified memory ships on by default with hard limits on sensitive data

Anthropic's unified Claude memory, launched August 25, 2026, is enabled by default across Free, Pro, and Max plans on web, desktop, and mobile. The system will never store government IDs, Social Security numbers, or criminal history regardless of consent. Health, political, and identity data is off by default, with an opt-in toggle for users who want it retained.
