Police Searched Indigenous Teen After Knowing He Was Wrong Person, Ombudsman Finds

Commonwealth Ombudsman Iain Anderson found ACT Policing conducted an "inappropriate and seemingly unlawful" search of a 17-year-old Indigenous teenager after officers had already realized he was the wrong person. Officers removed him at gunpoint from a Canberra bus in November 2025. The entire incident lasted under four minutes. The report made eight recommendations to the AFP.
