Pentagon Fires Stars and Stripes Editor, Publisher, and Reporter Over Censorship "Red Line" Interview
The Pentagon fired Stars and Stripes editor-in-chief Erik Slavin, publisher Max Lederer, and reporter Lara Korte for insubordination tied to a CBS interview in which Slavin called censoring news for service members a "red line." The newspaper, partially Pentagon-funded but congressionally mandated as editorially independent, reaches 1.4 million daily readers. Slavin said he received no official explanation and cannot appeal.
